It is the age of #multihyphenate.
Not necessarily for everyone, but definitely for the rising group of young professionals who are embracing their multi-faceted personalities that may not be defined by a singular skill set. Gone are the days when only celebrities could afford to lead a multihyphenate lifestyle, as a quick search on LinkedIn shows bios popping up with descriptions that are multihyphenated and individuals self-naming their multihyphenate journey.
What has caused a boom in multihyphenate individuals?
Humans, by nature, are a variable that is impacted by extrinsic circumstances but driven by their intrinsic characteristics. Post-pandemic, in today’s age of looming #recession, it is precarious to have a single outlet for your interests and/or passion. And if you are good at something, why do it for free? Utilizing your zeal to create a secondary (or tertiary) source of income that supplements your lifestyle while being a channel to satiate your inner core self sounds like a win-win.
Does it mean we are fuelling the #hustle culture?
Experienced & successful multihyphenates swear by one rule- ‘The balancing act’. Juggling varied careers does not mean leading a life of extremity. It is meant to enhance and improve your quality of life by being more fulfilling and satisfying. Dividing your time and energy across projects and having downtime to recharge, by being self-aware of your limitations, is how one can truly champion the multihyphenate journey.
Where do you start?
Begin by listing down your interests & hobbies that excite you and really fascinate you. Spend time #consistently developing and mastering it. Throughout this path, you’d want to connect with individuals who are pioneers and/or experts to build a network that motivates you to keep going. Being consistent and slowly working towards building and reaching an objective is key wherein eventually you can be acclaimed as a maestro.
The recipe is personal for every individual, however, having an end goal and being truly driven by it really manifests positive results as juggling more than one career becomes second nature. In today’s era of iffiness, there is an opportunity to really build and experiment with your true potential that may or may not be stringent to one specific career goal.
